The Legged Squad Support System also called LS3 was a project for a legged robot which could function autonomously as a packhorse for a squad of soldiers or marines, They were developed by Boston Dynamics on December 3, 2009. It was specifically made for the US army because of its ability to operate in hot, cold, wet, and dirty environments.

 

The Robotic Dogs were created to carry heavy equipment, It can carry load of up to 400 pounds (180kg). The LS3 robotic dogs has over 50 sensors on its, And the sensors measure the acceleration of the body, force of joint actuators as well as engine speed, temperature and hydraulic pressure inside the robot’s internal engine.

 

The unique walking pattern of the dog is controlled through four legs, each equipped with four low-friction hydraulic cylinder actuators that power the joints.They can manage to search, track, and rescue even in nuclear, biological, radiological, and chemical environments.
